Work is Love!

In Attitude about Mondays, Basic Concepts of WORK on July 30, 2012 at 14:22

When I look at this photo, I can’t help but think about what a beautiful place our offices would be, if all of us had this attitude in our workplaces – ‘My work is LOVE made VISIBLE’!

If all of us realise that our work is nothing but an expression of our love & care towards others, then we would be better workers & performers. Our drive & passion will come from within & not from outside. Let me give you some examples:

1. A person working in an automobile company (as a mechanic) should realise that everyday he goes to the factory to make better vehicles which will keep his customer safe on the roads. He should think that his work is the expression of his love towards his ‘customer & his family’. And an expression of his love towards his employees, company, coworkers & even suppliers because by doing his job well, he makes all of their lives better.

2. A person working in a software company (as an Engineer) should realise that everyday he goes to his office to make better software that helps the users be more productive. He should think of his work as the expression of his love towards his end users.

So on and so forth. This can be applied to every working professional in any industry. Think about it!

Just for a moment, think about all the people involved in your work life – your boss, your clients, your colleagues, team mates, suppliers, etc. When you do your work with focus, commitment and sincerity, you are not just doing your job just to make a living, but you are expressing your ‘love & care’ towards ALL of these people.

Money, salary, promotion, increase, profit, recognition are all just by-products of this ‘expression of your love for others’!

It is just a matter of perspective. Just a small shift in paradigm. A change in the way you see your work & worklife. Try changing it for a couple of days and see the difference.

All the best!

Purpose of Work – MEPZ Chennai – 14 July 2012

In Events & Seminars on July 30, 2012 at 12:55

The MEPZ Corporate Fellowship in Chennai had invited me to speak to their corporate group members about the ‘Purpose of Work’ on 14th July 2012. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and people from different companies like CTS, WIPRO, etc came together for a day of learning, activity, games, etc. It was a fun group and it was good to some families too. Apart from the speaking session, I enjoyed the ice-breaker, games, songs, music and the personal stories shared by different people. The co-ordinator Jabin was a good friend and we’ve known each other for many years.

In the session, we discussed different work principles from the Bible and the ultimate purpose that we all go to work for: ‘To meet the needs of people: To serve”

I had a great time sharing truths about the subject closest to my heart (Work concepts) to the audience that, I believe, I am called to serve (Working professionals). What more can I ask for?

I was accompanied, for the long drive on ECR, by my loving aunt, Mrs. Suhasini Ernest, who is a HOD of Physics in UDC College, Trichy (and a great speaker herself). It was fun driving down ECR on a Weekend with the sea breeze & the beach view!

Monday Morning Attitude

In Attitude about Mondays, Mind on May 7, 2012 at 08:51

No Monday bluesMondays are important because they are the days in which we lay the foundation for our future. They are the days of ‘Sowing’ for a future ‘Harvest’!

Let me explain a bit (since many of us dont understand the agri-terminologies much)

For a farmer, the day of sowing is the most important day in his work life. A good farmer very eagerly looks forward to it.

A smart farmer understands that even though it might be a hardworking, sweating, hot and long day, if he sows the right seed, in the right place at the right time, his ‘Harvest’ season is well taken care of. He can then relax and enjoy the harvest.

For many of us in the corporate and business world. Mondays are the sowing time!

That is why we must not complaint and crib about going to work on Mondays. We must have the right attitude towards work and worklife. We must understand that we are sowing for our future.

Now you may ask, “But I am going to office and sowing anyway. Just that I dont like it and I hate Mondays”.  Now, if you have a bad attitude, it makes the sowing process that much more difficult.

Some of the benefits of sowing with the right attitude are:

1. You may be able to cover more area while sowing, simply because you are happy! More the area, more the harvest!

2. You will be able to spot the wrong seeds and stop sowing them because your mind is clearer. A happy mind is a clear mind! You can avoid undesirable harvest at a future date.

3. Other people love to sow alongside a happy sower. The more people you have to sow along with you, the more harvest you get!

4. Landowners prefer to employ a happy sower to a complaining sower. Your employability in the sowing business increases!

5. When you are happy, it shows that you know what you are doing and you are a focussed individual.

So, go ahead and enjoy your Monday and stop complaining about it.

Have a good ‘sowing’ time, sow the right seeds with the right attitude &  enjoy the right harvest!

Martin Kristiaman

The Haggai International Alumni in Sydney had organised a meeting for me to speak to them about Workplace Concepts of the Bible.

I met Martin Kristiaman who heads the coordination efforts of Haggai in the region. I had dinner with his wonderful wife & son (later met his Daughter also). I had a great time listening to Martin’s story about business & God and it was a great privilege to meet and get to know his God-loving family. What a joy!

Martin and Ms.Kay Waddle (a H.I. Staff) had made all the arrangement for the meeting and I shared some important principles of ‘Work’ from the bible with this word-thirsty group. We also had a question and answer session where I was able to clarify a few techniques and practical aspects of living a successful work life for God.

The passion that this team had for God was simply awesome to witness! Martin and I also discussed the possibility of conducting more ‘Work’ seminars (for businessmen and pastors) in the days to come.

Nosa’s Bible Study – Gold Coast, Australia – 05th Feb 2012

Nosa (with a smile), Nosa’s wife behind him & Rami (in a white t-shirt)

During my Brisbane trip, my wonderful hosts Jackson & Lucy Seeto had made arrangement for me to speak in a Bible study fellowship in Gold Coast. After the Sunday morning church service at Meadowbrook (it was 12:30pm by the time we were out of there) Jackson & Lucy were ready to drive me up to Gold Coast (about 90Kms) and take me to the Bible Study fellowship there, so that I can share ‘Work Principles’. I praise God for their stamina, persistence and most of all, for the LOVE that they have for God’s Word! What an awesome couple!

I was able to share some principles of Work & initiate a healthy discussion among the group. (And hopefully a radical thought pattern about ‘work’).

The Bible study was held at the home of an ever-smiling brother Nosa Esiet & his hospitable wife (Nosa works for Bond university). I experienced some great hospitality, food & God’s love from Nosa’s family.

I made a few good friends during this meeting (in the photos) – including Rami & his family, Shabir and Den & his wife. We later went out to Rami’s place and had a chat for more than an hour before driving back to Brisbane. I was able to share some of the vision that I had for Digital Marketing with Rami, who was also in a technology consulting business.

Important: In Rami’s house, right in the middle of the conversations about God’s principles, I realized that we were 8 individuals from 6 different countries and backgrounds, sitting in one room (Australia, China, India, Lebanon, Iran and Syria!). And we were laughing, chatting, snacking and drinking tea (wonderful tea, by the way) as if we were friends for a long time! It was amazing how God connected his children from around the world, through His spirit!

By the end of the day, I was tired but excited! I was ready to continue my journey back to Sydney after a fulfilling trip to Brisbane. It was an unforgettable trip!

Shabir (green shirt) is a fun guy! Rami’s wife and Den’s wife are listening keenly to the hair-dye story from Rami.

Rami’s hair dye story was very funny!

Meadowbrook Church, Brisbane, Australia – 05th Feb 2012

Worship Led by Jodie Barnard

I was introduced to Pastor Denis while I was in Brisbane (Jackson Seeto made the introduction) and I shared with him my passion and calling for teaching working people & the business community. He immediately caught my vision and later extended an invitation to speak in the Sunday morning service in his church (Meadowbrook Church, Brisbane), which I readily accepted.

It was a church full of people who were thirsty to learn God’s word and apply it to their lives. And that is because their leaders Pastor Denis & Lois Barnard are driven by a great passion to see the Kingdom of heaven built in Meadowbrook!

The worship session was led by ‘Jodie Barnard & team’ (in the photo above) and it was an awesome worship session. Please note: This was just a few days before Jodie’s baby was due!

I shared ‘Work Principles’ from the Bible, God’s perspective of work & the reasons for which we need to go to work on a daily basis. After the service, I had the privilege of praying individually for a few people from the congregation, specifically for their work related problems.

I thank Jackson & Lucy for making this happen!
